The Light of Love: Reflections on Jn 3:16 in the Light of Mariology

The text of Jn 3:16-21 presents one of the most beautiful and profound statements about divine love. In revealing the reason why God sent His Son into the world, Jesus emphasizes that love is not a fleeting emotion but a transformative action that seeks the salvation of humanity.Um Dom Incondicional:“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (Jn 3:16)Here we see the essence of divine love: an unconditional and free gift. God, in His infinite mercy, offers His Son as salvation for all, without distinction. This act of love transcends any human merit.Maria: A Aurora da Luz:Along the text, the figure of Mary appears not only as the mother of Jesus but also as the creature who first welcomed the light of this unconditional love. Her “Immaculate Conception” symbolizes complete transparency to the divine light, allowing the Word to become flesh in her.The dialectic of light/darkness present in the text (Jn 3:19-21) highlights the human choice between embracing or rejecting the light. Mary represents the exception, the creature who never preferred darkness to light, thus becoming the model for all believers.A Luz na Cruz e na Ressurreição:The love of God, expressed in Jn 3:16, is not limited to the Incarnation. It culminates in the Cross and the Resurrection. Mary, present at the cross (Jn 19:25), is a witness to the love that gives up the Son for the salvation of humanity. In the resurrection, she is the first to receive faith in victory over death, anticipating the hope of eternal life for all believers.Um Chamado à Vida em Comunhão:The Paschal Mariology reveals a deep connection between the mystery of Mary and the Paschal mystery. Her unshakable faith in the resurrection is a testimony to the love that continues to transform lives even today.Called by the divine love expressed in Jn 3:16, we are invited to live in communion with Mary, welcoming the light of love into our lives and sharing it with the world.
