Mary, the Redeemer in the Redemptor: A brief liturgical and mariological reflection

A brief reflection…
Mary, Co-Redemptrix in the Redeemer: Liturgical Reflection
On May 13, 2010, at the Sanctuary of Fátima, addressing the sick, Pope Benedict XVI stated:“Dear sick, welcome this call of Jesus who will pass by you in the Most Holy Sacrament and entrust to Him all the adversities and pains that you face so they may become, according to His designs, a means of redemption for the whole world. You will be redeemers in the Redeemer, as you are sons in the Son. Beside the cross… is the Mother of Jesus, our Mother.”To be redeemers in the Redeemer is a possibility offered to all who entrust their adversities to Christ, in accordance with the providence of God the Father, who completes, through a mysterious design, the passion of His Son in His members (cf. Masses of the Holy Virgin Mary, Missal, Form 11). The disciples of Christ can be redeemers in the one Redeemer, but the Most Holy Virgin Mary, in a special and incomparable way, is redeemer in the Redeemer, for she was given to us as a model of the disciple who faithfully keeps the word of life (cf. Form 10).Formed by the Holy Spirit and fully united to the sacrifice of the New Covenant (cf. Formulary 12), Mary, the Mother of Jesus, is redeemer in the Redeemer in a singular and irrepeatable way, for she was present in the mysteries of our salvation (cf. Formulary 9). At the foot of her Son’s cross, she endured intense sufferings, embracing the saving will of God the Father and faithfully serving the mystery of Redemption (cf. Formulary 12).The Lex Orandi of the Church: Mary and Cooperation in Salvation
The Liturgy of the Church also affirms that, through the infinite goodness of God, the mystery of our reconciliation was accomplished in the holy Virgin Mary before all ages (cf. Formulary 24). Indeed, Mary is the Reconciler of sinners (cf. Formulary 14), the Meek Lamb who suffered with the Innocent Lamb (cf. Formulary 36), and the Mother of the author of the New Covenant, associated with his mystery of salvation (cf. Formulary 20).As the Holy Church, our mother and teacher, teaches us, we never cease to marvel at the wonders that God has worked in His humble servant. We ask and learn to ask the Heavenly Father that, through the merits of Jesus Christ, the High Priest, and through the sorrows of the Virgin Mary, His Mother, the Holy Spirit, present in the Church, may pour out His gifts abundantly upon all the earth (cf. Formulário 11).P. João Paulo Quelhas DominguesThe role of Mary in redemption is highlighted in no. 58 of the Dogmatic Constitution Lumen Gentium, which presents her as a singular co-worker in the work of Christ’s salvation.Profundeb suas estudos: explore Mariologia, Teologia Mariana, Aparições Marianas e a Pós-Graduação em Mariologia.Academic Marian resources: Deepen your formation in Mariology and Marian Theology with the Instituto Locus Mariologicus.
